U8s - Results  & Match Reports

 <>

Sunday 18th October 2009.

.

It has come to my attention that new FA rules prevent the publication of scores or match reports for Under 8s football. From this point on AYFC U8s will respect the FA regulations in order to preserve our chartered status and hence formal match reports will not be produced or published.

.

However, the recent  U8 game  taught us a few lessons. We need to be more committed, more focussed and to work more as a team. The recent match was an example by our opponents of how junior football should be played, smiles, enjoyment, passing, moving, great shooting and continued concentration and commitment. We showed signs of our ability and managed to string together some impressive moves, but we must work as a team that sustains focus and attention for the full duration of the match in order to improve our consistency. We are improving and it is a privilege to see and be part of, but we must ensure we all concentrate and focus on the game.

.

As a team, we need to focus on the issue that we will be in the Hanham Minor League next year for which this year is the final preparation phase. The cooperation of parents and guardians with various team choices will be appreciated whilst we try to understand what player combination works best, whilst trying to maintain the kid’s enthusiasm and passion for the game of football.

Southmead Comm Sport U8s 6v1 Almondsbury Youth U8s

An experimental and inexperienced AYFC U8s competed well against an organised Southmead team. After volunteering to go in goal, Haydon Somers pulled off some great saves but was unable to stop a Southmead team that moved the ball very well. Matthew Barker stepped between the sticks for the second half and done very well. Performances of the day goes to Will Baldwin, Oscar Graham and Ethan Graham who all battled and worked hard with Haydon Somers being credited for our single goal. Well done boys but we must pass the ball more, concentrate on the game and keep in our positions.

Southmead Comm Sport U8s 2v1 Almondsbury Youth U8s

AYFC started off slow in Game 2 and conceded two goals fairly early on. Despite this they battled back well and came close on a number of occasions. The second half proved more favourable and despite some fantastic interchange by Tommy Dougall superb defending by Finley Norton (making his debut), the solitary goal by Jack Pickles was just not enough to earn a share of the spoils. All in all we deserved at least a draw, but there were some positive observations with movement and passing much better than previous weeks. Well done boys, we are making progress.

Ashton Boys U8s 5 v 0 Almondsbury Youth U8s

An "out-of-sorts" and relatively inexperienced AYFC U8s failed to come to grips with a strong and physical Ashton Boys side. Ashton scored a couple of goals on the break early on, which knocked the confidence of the AYFC U8s. Despite coming close on a couple of occasions, we were unable to add to the tally. Superb keeping by James Lynch in goal prevented a higher margin of defeat. We need to concentrate on our postioning and speed/ accuracy of passing, but that's something we can work on!

Ashton Boys U8s 4 v 3 Almondsbury Youth U8s

Match 2 saw a "tit-for-tat" exchange with AYFC U8s taking the lead on three occasions during this game, only to be pegged back by Ashton Boys. Strong and solid performances by Jo Mortimore & Tommy Dougall were of special note, but even a finely taken "hat-trick" by Jack Pickles could not prevent Ashton's long range effort sealing the win in the latter stages of the match. Well done though lads, there was some great football and we were unlucky not to secure at least a draw.

Coalpit Heath U8s 1 v 0 Almondsbury Youth U8s

An organised and determined Coalpit Heath team came out victors in a closely fought game one. Both teams had chances to score but the game was settled by a single goal in our host's favour. Tommy Dougall had an excellent game at the back with good supporting play from Ryan Davey. William Baldwin made his AYFC U8 debut and will be one to watch for the future. Despite a number of close chances were were just unable to level the scores. 10 out of 10 for effort boys!

Coalpit Heath U8s 4 v 2 Almondsbury Youth U8s

Match 2 saw Joel Davis-Brenchley make his debut in the 4-2 defeat. The team showed spirited fightback, coming back from two nil down to level the scores with a neatly taken Cameron Wilton  goal and a "poachers" goal from Jack Pickles. However, this was not quite enough to prevent Coalpit Heath running out deserving  4-2 victors. Jo Mortimore had a solid game in defence with "comedy moment of the day" going to Scott Barroman for inventing a new way to control and run with the ball, e.g. with the ball clenched between both kees!! Nice one Scott and great effort lads!!

Almondsbury Youth U8s 2 v 2 Stoke Lane U8s

A positive and encouraging AYFC U8s secured an excellent 2v2 draw with local rivals Stoke Lane in their first game of the season. Stoke Lane started stronger and went two nil up in the first half. A spirited and determined fight back by AYFC U8s saw Max Burge slot home for the first with Cameron Wilton capping of his excellent all round performance with a neatly taken equaliser. It was a fully deserved result which was complimented by strong and determined defending by Tommy Dougall and excellent work between the sticks by James Lynch.

Almondsbury Youth U8s 0 v 3 Stoke Lane U8s

Match 2 saw debutants Jack Thorne, Adam Thorne and Daniel Giuliani get their first taste of junior football against a strong and competitive Stoke Lane team. Tough defending by Ethan Graham contained our hosts but AYFC U8s were unable to prevent them securing a well deserved victory. Despite Jack Pickles running his legs off and Scott Barrowman using his power and speed, both saw goal attempts go close, but were unable to add to the scoring.

Overall, it was an excellent start to the season from both teams, with the absence of match practice hardly showing. Well done lads, you should all be proud of those performances!!
