Almondsbury Youth U10 4 v 4 Longwell Green U10

Sunday 18Sep11

Overall: A tough, competitive and fair game saw Almondsbury share the spoils 4-4 with Longwell Green. The football was played in the right competitive spirit with exciting chances at each end countered with effective and committed defending and goalkeeping from both sides. This was a great example of how youth team football should be played!

However, we must learn to get straight into the game, clear the ball quickly from defence and take our chances in front of goal...but overall this was a positive and encouraging performance..well done!

Game 1Almondsbury Eagles

Another slow start cost us dearly as we found ourselves 1-down in less than sixty seconds ( we must concentrate right from the off!!). Despite trying to play some football a defensive mix-up resulted in a clearance sailing over the Almondsbury keeper to put the visitors 2-0 up. Unperturbed, the Eagles rallied with Max Burge, combative and creative in midfield, creating confusion in Longwell defence and resulting in them netting in their own net. 1-2! Will Baldwin was confident bringing the ball out of defence with his 2nd Lieutenant, Adam Thorne, almost unpassable. Will was rewarded on 15min as he netted his second of the day ( Ok!...the first was the OG!!) to put the scores level at 2-2. Despite numerous chances for both teams it stayed this way for the rest of the game.

Star Player: William Baldwin - An awesome defensive display with excellent counter attacking and two goals (OK!..it doesn't matter that one was an OG!!)

Game 2 Almondsbury Hawks

Match 2 - A lack of early concentration cost us again as we conceded after just 4 minutes but again we picked ourselves up quickly. A superb counter-attack found Ryan Davey out wide whose pinpoint pass found Cam Wilton to take the ball in his stride and drive home from 10 yds after 15 min. Confusion in defence again opened the door for our visitors to go 2-1 but we again responded well with a sublime Finley Norton chipped goal drawing the scores level after 17min. Both teams exchanged attacking and defensive moves but were unable to break the deadlock in a tense but exciting encounter which concluded with a 2-2 draw. Special mention to Finley, Ryan and Tommy Dougall for doing their bit between the sticks.

Star Player: Finley Norton - Great Goalkeeping, Great midfield play, Exquisite Goal..well done Finley

Keynsham Jrs 7 v 5 Almondsbury Youth Fc

Sunday 11Sep11

Overall: Despite the final 7-5 result going against us, this was a positive performance where it was obvious that all players tried to implement the learning from our training. We pressed and jockeyed without over committing, we played some good passing football and we had lots of goal scoring opportunities. Today the result was irrelevant since it was the style of the performance that I was pleased with...well done boys.

Game 1Almondsbury Eagles

Match 1 saw the Eagles compete equally against a strong Keynsham team. Commanding the defence, ‘keeper James Lynch was faultless and was ably supported by Adam Thorne and Will Baldwin in defence. Callum Finn dominated midfield with some great defensive and attacking play with Jack Thorne sealing our only goal in a 2-1 defeat. A poor coaching instruction caused confusion in the team upon which our hosts capitalised to nick the winner...sorry boys that was my fault!!

Star Player: Callum Finn

Game 2 Almondsbury Hawks

Match 2 provided the Hawks with a stiff challenge but despite going one down they rallied. An exciting first half saw the team enter half time level at 2-2 following two composed finishes by Cam Wilton. A the back, Joel Davis-Brenchley was calm and composed in defence and was ably supported by Matthew Barker. Unfortunately, for a few minutes we seemed to lose concentration mid-way through the second half and conceded some sloppy goals but we rallied with further goals from Finley Norton and Ryan Davey just not enough to prevent a 5-4 defeat.

Star Player: Joel Davis-Brenchley

League

Almondsbury Youth U10 0 v 4 Bradley Stoke Utd

Sun 16 Oct11

Overall: A simple message from this week's two matches...we must be prepared to take more shots at goal.!! In Game 1 the Eagles dominated possession with the some lovely flowing football from a re-juvenated side. The Hawks just seemed unable to string passes together and on many occasions just did not get the run of the ball. But overall not scoring any goals is simply not going to win us matches!!

Guess what we're working on at training this week?

Almondsbury Eagles U10 0 v 0 Bradley Stoke Utd

Game 1: The Eagles improved significantly from last week. Right from the start there was some fine flowing, intelligent foootball, we battled and harassed with passing and moving in abundance. We played well from the back, linked well in midfield, made some clever moves but it was infront of goal we lacked that clinical finishing ability. With Will Baldwin and Adam Thorne were formidible at the back and we never really looked like conceding. We impressed with some excellent moves from Danny Seymour and Max Burge but the clever play needs to have and end result...a shot on target!!..and this was our downfall today. We simplly did not get away as many shots as we need to.

Star Man:

Adam Thorne - An inspirational game in defence...well done Adam.

Almondsbury Hawks U10 0 v 4 Bradely Stoke Utd

Game 2: In game 2 the Hawks never really got into their stride. We looked a little jaded and didn't seem to be able to play the fast flowing football of last week. A times there was a little too much individual play when an easy pass will have opened up the game and created chances. We need to try and be more aware of what is going on around us and take the sensible choice. As usual Ryan Davey was his industrial, hard working self, with Finley Norton defending well. Michael Winnett, Joel Davis-Brenchley and Matt Barker put in fine defensive work with Josh Richardson and Joe Berry doing their bit for the team both in goal and on the field. However, the lack of attempts on goal an tell overall story, not necessary about a team that were better than us, but about a team who were prepared to have a go at goal and who reaped some rewards for their effort.

Shooting practice at training next week!!

Star Man:

Ryan Davey - a hard working and tireless match..well done Ryan.

Brislington Jrs U10 8 v 7 Almondsbury Youth U10

Sunday 08Oct11

Overall: A disappointing and ineffective performance by the Eagles was surpassed by an enterprising and combative performance by the Hawks that saw AYFC just come out the wrong side of an 8-7 result. The Hawks were magnificent to pull back the 5-0 deficit from Game 1 but were just unable to turn it around.

Game 1Brislington Jrs U10s 5 v 0 Almondsbury Youth F.C (Eagles)

Match 1 - The Eagles never got out of first gear in this match. Passing could have been much better, pressing and jockeying was completely absent and we were the shadow of the team that performed so well last week. The highlight of the game was Saud Alyaseen's skilfull touches and passes but too often we were out of position, failing to challenge for that ball and ineffective across the whole field. The 2nd half showed a marginal improvement but there were few chances to talk about apart Saud who was consistent in his play. It tells a story when the opposition's defender scores a hat-trick!!!...We must learn to apply our training to be consistent and to show commitment and enthusisam. A 5-0 defeat was probably deserved!

Star Player: Saud Alyaseen

Great poise and balance on the ball, some clever passes and individual play..you had a great game Saud!

Game 2Brislington Jrs U10s 3 v 7 Almondsbury Youth F.C (Hawks)

Match 2 - In Match 2 the Hawks came out like raging bulls. From the off we were on top and a succession of great moves and finishes saw us go 5-0 up against a shell-shocked Bris side. It was such compulsive viewing and entertaining football I lost count of the scorers! Following conceding a goal just before the break we again conceded twice to some speculative shots but unperturbed the Hawks pressed on. In defence Matt Barker done everything he needed to with Fin Norton defending robustly. Josh Richardson and Josh Hudgell put in effective performances with Joe Berry, Cam Wilton, Tommy Dougall and Ryan Davey working very well as a unit. jJack Thorne was brave in goal. Despite Matt Barker's defending keeping our hosts at bay we were just unable to seize the momentum in the 2nd half and despite a gladatorial effort by all playersin the final game, a 7-3 win was just not enough to reverse the score from game 1. A great performance Hawks..well done

Star Player: Matt Barker

Sturdy and robust defending that stopped attackers in their stride..could not do anything about the goals!

Almondsbury Youth U10 2 v 2 Deerswood U10

Sunday 02Oct11

Overall: A depleted and under strength Almondsbury Youth showed their true colours today to grind out a fully deserved 2-2 draw against newly promoted Deerswood. In hot and humid conditions both teams stuck to the game plan by pressing, supporting, passing, moving and shooting. This was a superb demonstration of teamwork and commitment against strong opposition but our desire and passion was very clear to see...well done again boys

Game 1Almondsbury Eagles 0 v 1 Deerswood A

Match 1 - The Eagles started brightly again this week and put together some good passsing movements. Deputising in defence, Callum Finn put in a strong and determined performance and was supported by the ever consistent Adam Thorne. Taylor Wright was bright and confident on the left and always troubled the Deerswood defence. The game saw some even exchanges of  goal mouth action but it was not until midway through the 2nd half when our visitors broke the deadlock. Un-phased, the Eagles kept pressing with Taylor controlling the game assisted by clever play from Max Burge. Saud Alyaseen showed great skill and maturity with Danny Seymour putting in some attacking runs on the right.  A great oppotunity went begging for the Eagles who were just unable to claw back the score to end with a 0-1 defeat in game 1.

Star Player: Taylor Wright

A confident and composed demonstration of midfield attacking coupled with effective defensive work and excellent indvidual skill...well done Taylor..you're the man!

Game 2Almondsbury Eagles 2 v 1 Deerswood A

Match 2 - Again, we were up for this game right from the start. From the whistle we got stuck into our pressing and supporting and really showed our visitors that they had a game on their hands. Deerswood put together some  great passing moves but it was from a long throw when their forward cleveley nicked the ball home. We then showed our spirit and enterprise  with Jack Thorne now in goal, Joel-Davis Brenchley in defence with Michael Winnett, we got stronger as the game went on despite intensive pressure. It was direct from a free kick when Tommy Dougall struck the equaliser by evading the Deerswood defence and shortly after, probably the best bit of passing football I have seen in ages resulted in Tommy securing his 2nd of the day. 2-1 Hawks! Deerswood piled on the pressure and despite a missed penalty they  kept attacking like a tribe of angry Zulus!!. With Tommy now adopting a defensive role, Ryan determined and committed in defence and Cam Wilton hassling, our defence was inpenetrable and we managed to hold out for a 2-1 victory to share the spoils 2-2 overall. Special mention to Jack Thorne..a fantastic debut in goal!

Star Player: Tommy Dougall

A great strike from a free kick, a fine goal to cap off a fabulous team-move and superb defending at the death...a sensational all round performance... a great day for you Tommy!!

Cup

AEK Boco U10 6 v 3 Almondsbury Youth F.C

Sunday 24Sep11

Overall: A competitive and highly enthralling game saw the Almonds experience a 6-3 defeat against a competent and skillful Boco team. Despite winning Game one 2-1 were were just unable to maintain the tempo with Boco upping the ante in Game 2 to win 5-1 and secure this exciting tie 6-3 overall.

Disregarding the result this was a creditable performance with many players rising to the occasion and having a great game against tough opposition from the division above...well done all, you worked and battled hard and are a credit toyourselves and the Club!!

Game 1 AEK Boco A 12 Almondsbury Eagles

Match 1 - For the 1st time this season we started brightly and confidently. We played some good football out from the back and the oppostion were kept on their toes due to some clever goalkeeping by James Lynch. We came close on several occasions thanks to tricky wing play from Danny Seymour and Taylor Wright. Unfortunately we conceded to a well worked Boco goal but hit back very quickly with Danny volleying in from Taylor's excellent corner. 1-1 at half time! In the second half James continued to dominate in goal with great saves and mature clearances to set up attacks with Callum pressing forward and gaining confidence. His direct free kick against the post was soon forgotten as he drilled the ball home to put us up 2-1. Boco pressed and pushed but with chances at both ends going begging the scoring was done with the Eagles securing a well deserved victory.

Star Player: James Lynch

A confident and competent display with some great saves who commanded his area with mature and varied distribution throughout the team.

Game 2 AEK Boco B   5 v 1 Almondsbury Hawks

Match 2 - Again we started brightly and positively with Saud Alyaseen and Joe Berry making their season debuts and looking like established players. We put ogether some clever and entertaining moves which just resulted in shots being saved or going wide. Boco responded well securing an opener after 9min and again shortly after. However, we never gave up with Ryan Davey hassling and harrying, Josh Richardson pressing and pushing and Michael Winnett "bullying" the attackers. As we tired our hosts gained momentum to score again but we still never gave up with a clever team move seeing Ryan notch a deserving consolation. In midfield Josh Hudgell battled away with some clever passing and Fin Norton always a threat on the attack. Unfortunately our hosts were just a lttle stronger than us, but we kept pushing and pressing but we ran ou the wrong side of a 5-1 scoreline and an overall 6-3 defeat

Star Player: Ryan Davey

A committed and creative performance coupled with hardwork, teamwork and a deseving..well done Ryan.
